Investing in the Female Future

In the summer of 2017, the Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing (NDIGI) and the Mendoza College of Business announced their new partnership with Girls Who Invest (GWI), a non-profit organization founded in 2015 and dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the investment management industry. This partnership allowed Girls Who Invest to expand its Summer Intensive Program from 60 participants to 100. For the first time this summer, the University of Notre Dame will be hosting 50 young women participating in this program. These 50 young women will have the opportunity to experience Notre Dame’s campus life as they will be residing in Howard Hall, eating in the dining halls, using resources and facilities like the Hesburgh Library and the Duncan Student Center, and learning under Notre Dame faculty. …

Students Learn Financial Modeling

On February 10th and 24th, over 140 Notre Dame students from various majors participated in a Financial Modeling workshop co-sponsored by the Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing (NDIGI) and the Wall Street Club (WSC). Why Career Exploration Treks?

This January, the Wall Street Club of Notre Dame hosted four career treks in three cities: New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. Each trip consisted of approximately 20 students who were selected for the treks through a competitive application process led by the Wall Street Club. In these cities, students met with Notre Dame alumni from multiple financial firms. They were given the opportunity to network, practice interview skills, and garner practical financial knowledge and apply it outside of the classroom, expanding on necessary skills in the investment industry.…

This fall, the Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing (NDIGI) offered a new course — FIN 40685: Applied Private Equity Projects (APEP). Kevin Burke, managing director of NDIGI and assistant teaching professor in the department of finance, was inspired to create this course after visiting Harvard Business School last fall.  He saw that pairing lectures with projects bridged the gap between theory and practice, which resulted in accelerated learning and increased student engagement amongst the Harvard MBA students.…

International Portfolio Management course plans travel to Rio, Brazil

The Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing recently announced this year’s one-credit International Portfolio Management (IPM) course will take place in Rio, Brazil. Mendoza students will spend the week engaging in real-world interactions and working on a case study with a Rio-based firm. Case studies like this one, which are typically based on a real-world situation, allow students to simulate the process of analyzing and solving complex business problems. They challenge students to develop their own solutions and then channel these solutions toward a recommended course of action.…
