Katie Koch

Chief Investment Officer, Public Equity

Goldman Sachs Asset Management

Katie Koch is the Chief Investment Officer of Public Equity at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. She manages a $365 billion public equity investing platform and team of over 320 professionals globally, making her one of the few women in the asset management industry leading an investing business.

She is at the forefront of leading Goldman Sachs diversity efforts and is a champion for women at the firm and across the industry. In her role as a business leader, she has built a highly diverse team with 54% of assets managed by women. Related to this, Katie is the firm’s sponsor for “Girls Who Invest,” a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry. Additionally, she serves on the  Board of  Advisors for  Launch  With GS, Goldman Sachs’  $1 billion  investment strategy grounded in the firm’s data-driven thesis that diverse teams drive strong returns.

Katie has also evolved Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s proxy voting policy to push for greater levels of diversity on public company boards. Under her leadership, since 2019 Goldman Sachs Asset Management has voted against directors at companies with no women on the board and seen significant improvements, with 68% of the all-male boards voted against in 2019 having added at least one woman director. Looking at diversity beyond gender, beginning in 2022 Katie updated the policy to expect all S&P 500 and FTSE 100 companies to have at least one ethnically diverse director. In the spirit of these initiatives, she has also put forward qualified diverse candidates for open board seats at companies interested in adding diverse board talent.

Katie has contributed significantly to the firm’s efforts on the economic enfranchisement of women in the developing world. She co-authored “Giving credit where it is due: How closing the credit gap for women-owned SMEs can drive global growth.” As an extension to her thought leadership, she has made a direct impact on underserved female entrepreneurs with business education, coaching, and mentorship through the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative, and helped launch and raise capital for the Women Entrepreneurs Opportunity Facility, a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women program and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, which has invested more than $1.7 billion in female entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

In 2015, Katie was honored as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. She has also been named as one of the Top Women in Asset Management by Money Management Executive and the Financial Times HERoes list, which recognizes champions of women in business.

Katie is on the Board of Directors of TIFF Advisory Services, Inc. which serves the investment needs of the nonprofit community. She is a member of the Governing Board of Directors of the Robert Toigo Foundation, which works with leaders at organizations to create and implement high-impact solutions that drive inclusion and diversity. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Patton Veterans Project and is a member of the University of Notre Dame's Wall Street Leadership Committee.

Katie earned a BA, magna cum laude, in English and Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 2002. Katie lives in New York City with her husband and four children.
