Real-World Education

Through NDIGI, I have had several unique opportunities to advance my education beyond the limits of the classroom. As a junior, I was able to take the Applied Investment Management (AIM) course, where the members of the class managed a piece of the Notre Dame Endowment. The real-world implications of the investment decisions of the class inspired a level of research and financial analysis that is unparalleled at Notre Dame. The opportunity to apply classroom techniques to a real investment decision allowed me to hone my skills to best prepare for future internships and jobs. Additionally, during the fall, I was able to work with a company in preparing their Confidential Information Memorandum as they sought seed funding to further develop their business. Working with professionals on analyzing their business offered unique insights into the fundraising process and the challenges that can arise during the early stages of a company’s growth. This opportunity was only accessible due to the work of the Institute.

Alternative Finance Education

NDIGI offers students the opportunity to learn about alternative careers in finance that otherwise might remain a mystery to the majority of students. Through the Speaker Series, students have the opportunity to learn from a variety of different investment professionals. Whether it be a member of the venture capital industry or an alternative asset manager, NDIGI affords students the opportunity to become educated in both the possible careers in finance available as well as the intricacies of different industries in the financial space. Students can also apply this knowledge through the variety of opportunities offered in the Institute, like the Venture Capital competition. Overall, the Institute encourages students to supplement their education with enhanced knowledge about the finance world.
