Recommended Course Sequence

The Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing (NDIGI) recommends the following course sequencing for students interested in investment management. This course sequencing should be augmented with active participation in other NDIGI programs and activities.¹ 

Sophomore Year:

  • Complete Corporate Financial Management in the fall
  • Complete Advanced Corporate Finance (ACF) or Investment Theory in the spring, if available

Junior Year:

  • Complete ACF and Investment Theory fall semester
  • Complete Financial Statement Analysis (FSA) or Corporate Financial Reporting (CFR) fall semester, if possible
  • If studying abroad, complete ACF, Investment Theory, and FSA/CFR during on-campus semester if possible
  • Begin finance electives and/or extra accounting courses in the spring semester, if available (including Emerging Markets Investing if studying in London spring semester)

Ndigi2

Senior Year:

  • Complete finance electives and possibly additional accounting courses
  • Take Applied Investment Management (AIM) or Applied Private Equity Projects (APEP), if available and eligible
  • Take Global Portfolio Management (GPM), if available and eligible 
  • Highly recommended electives—AIM, APEP, AOI, GPM, Security Analysis, Private Equity, Fixed Income, Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Other possible electives—Working Capital Management, Behavioral Finance, Advanced Investment Strategies, Options & Futures, Trading & Markets, Python for Finance, International Finance
